A Friendship Toast

One of my dearest friends just got married, and I was lucky enough to attend. It was a lusciously Catholic and spiritual wedding. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried. Heck, I even had some Holy Eucharist and said some prayers. The reception probably negated those prayers, since I proceeded to get hammered. There was an open bar, along with the scrumptious vegetarian fare, and it was my first weekend away from both the baby and Rahim.

Not since college did I drink so much. Maybe it was all the talk about love and being away from my two favorite people. It could have been all the nostalgic talk and memories. Even Xmo and I had a cry together. Those long friendships, the kind that last decades, beyond time and distance, those are crazy good and worth treasuring. Toasting with sour apple martinis sounds good too.

So, to my newly married friend, when you get back to NYC from your honeymoon travels, take time to go on one of those New York tours, but don't forget to take in the view from your kitchen window. First, whether, you're taking one of those double deckers or a New York helicopter, you'll see the "usual" from a different perspective. Learn about the thing you've always thought you knew about. I know New York City can be like that and so can relationships. Second, don't forget to stop and breathe. Breathe some more. Enjoy every passing moment. We're not 19 anymore and thank god.
